Washing corduroy pants in a washing machine

Although they have a distinctive texture and style, corduroy pants can be difficult to wash. If done incorrectly, the characteristic ridges and softness of the fabric may be lost. But, you can easily wash your corduroy pants in a washing machine if you take a little extra care.

It’s crucial to read the care label on your pants before washing. Since the thickness and material of corduroy can vary, it’s usually a good idea to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. In general, to prevent shrinking and color fading, corduroy pants should be machine washed on a gentle cycle in cold water.

Before putting your pants in the washer, turn them inside out to help shield the fabric from deterioration. Maintaining the material’s appearance and feel can also be achieved by using a gentle detergent and avoiding harsh chemicals.

Corduroy pants are best left to air dry after washing. Laying them flat or hanging them up is a safer option because using a dryer can cause the fabric to shrink or lose its shape.

Preparing the pants in advance

The corduroy pants must first be cleaned of any hair, lint, dust, or other stuck debris in order to prepare them for the next step. Shake the pants gently first, and then use a clothes brush or specialized roller with a sticky base to go over the fabric. In the event that you lack the latter, you can make a homemade substitute by using wide tape. Put the tape to the fabric one at a time, then peel it off with the dirt.

It is necessary to wash the pants before washing them if they have significant stains on them. Here’s how to do it:

  • Select a suitable cleaner (it"s better to find a stain remover for delicate fabrics, without bleaching and alkaline components, but laundry soap will do);
  • According to the instructions, dose the product or dilute a warm soapy solution;
  • Dip a soft sponge or brush in a solution with the product and treat the stain;
  • If necessary, leave the product to "work" for a certain amount of time;
  • Rinse or immediately send it for further washing.

The pile may be harmed if you rub the corduroy too hard. You must move in the direction indicated by the stripes while acting as gently as you can. It’s not allowed to wring out moist areas either.

If you follow a few easy steps to preserve the texture and color of your corduroy pants, washing them in a washing machine is simple and easy. To avoid damage, turn them inside out, use cold water, and select a gentle cycle. To keep your corduroy looking fantastic for longer, air drying is preferable. Avoid overloading the machine and forego the dryer.

Will the machine ruin the corduroy trousers?

Corduroy is a finicky material that needs the gentlest care, so it is advised to wash it by hand only. Machine washing is feasible, but it’s up to the user. Even so, there is little chance of fabric damage if the procedure is planned with the following subtleties in mind:

  • only "Delicate" or "Manual" mode is selected;
  • spin is turned off or set to minimum;
  • a softener for tap water is added (a special agent or baking soda);
  • only liquid detergents with a gentle composition are used, without aggressive components, bleaches and alkalis;
  • the water heating temperature should not exceed 30 degrees;
  • automatic drying is prohibited.

It is not advised to wash velvet in an automatic washer.

When washing corduroy pants, another essential item to have on hand is reject conditioner. When rinsing, it is preferable to add 5–6 tablespoons of 9% table vinegar rather than rinse aid to the powder container’s center compartment.

We will wash in the traditional way

Hand washing is the best option when washing corduroy pants because they require special care. In this manner, the housewife maintains complete control over the procedure, prevents undue friction, and minimizes spinning. How should one wash their hands?

  1. The basin is filled with warm water (up to 30-40 degrees).
  2. Detergent is dissolved in water (ideally – gel for delicate fabrics or laundry soap).
  3. Pants are immersed in the soap solution.
  4. Heavily soiled areas are rubbed with a soft sponge or brush.

Velveteen can only be rubbed with a gentle sponge or clothes brush—not your hands!

  1. Things are rinsed in warm water until the detergent comes out of the fabric.

It is advised to add three to four tablespoons of acetic acid to the water before rinsing in order to gently soften the material, raise the pile, and prevent the fabric’s color from fading. It is preferable to turn the pants inside out before rinsing them to prevent abrasion to the wool. Velveteen cannot be wrung out; instead, it must be allowed to drain completely before being sent straight to dry.

If the pants are very dirty

Local stain removal treatment with a stain remover won’t work if the pants have multiple intricate stains rather than just one. The pants must be submerged in a soap solution containing a cleaner for twenty to thirty minutes. The upper limit cannot be exceeded because prolonged exposure to water damages velveteen.

You must repeat the process if, despite soaking for 30 minutes, the stains still remain. Pour three to four drops of ammonia per five liters of warm water into the basin. After lowering the pants, take ten to fifteen minutes to go. The item is then sent for machine or hand washing.

Step Description
1 Turn the trousers inside out
2 Use cold or lukewarm water
3 Select a gentle wash cycle
4 Use a mild detergent
5 Avoid fabric softeners
6 Dry on low heat or air dry

If you follow a few simple steps, washing corduroy pants in a washing machine can be both easy and efficient. Maintaining the excellent appearance of your pants can be achieved by taking the time to read the care label and properly sort your laundry.

To preserve the fabric, don’t forget to wash them inside out in cold or lukewarm water. The texture of the corduroy will also be preserved with a gentle cycle. The washing machine should not be overloaded as this might result in creases.

The best way to dry corduroy pants is by air. To prevent shrinking, use a low heat setting when using a dryer. You can prolong the softness, comfort, and style of your corduroy pants by taking note of these minor details.
