How to turn off the dishwasher

It is occasionally necessary to stop your dishwasher in the middle of a cycle. It’s crucial to know how to stop a machine properly, whether it’s because you unintentionally started the wrong program, you need to add more dishes, or there’s a problem with it.

Even though it might seem simple, there may be more steps involved in turning off a dishwasher than just pushing the power button. For certain models, there are precautions you must take to avoid damaging the machine or leaving water in it.

Depending on the circumstance and the type of dishwasher you own, this guide will show you how to safely turn it off. Making the proper decisions guarantees that your appliance will continue to function properly.

Emergency shutdown of the dishwasher

Any PMM, regardless of model or brand, can be stopped from its working cycle, but the procedure will vary. It is therefore advisable to read the instructions thoroughly before acting upon them. However, you can use our brief guide if you don’t have time to read the manual or if it’s not currently available. What is required to switch off the dishwasher while it is in operation?

  • In a situation where you urgently need to add dishes or remove something from the washing chamber, in which the washing is already actively in progress, you can either pause the “home assistant” or simply open the door, which is relevant for some models. When you have finished the necessary manipulations, simply close the door so that the program continues again.

When opening the door, avoid bending too low as this could cause you to get seriously burned by the hot steam.

  • To turn off the dishwasher after the end of the working cycle, you need to press the power button and open the door, not forgetting about standard precautions.
  • To interrupt the current wash, you need to press the power button and wait until the indicator of the program in progress goes out. Then you need to press the button again so that the indicator lights up again, and the selected working cycle ends as quickly as possible. Read the user manual to make sure your dishwasher has this function.

Avoid abusing the instructions provided, as opening the door frequently after the washing cycle begins will allow air to enter the chamber and warm up. This will cause the water to expand as a result of the heating process and spill into the emergency tray. It is best to open the dishwasher door as infrequently as possible because doing so may cause the leak protection to activate.

Why completely turn off the dishwasher?

Rarely, it’ll be necessary to completely shut off the dishwasher—for instance, if it’s located in a summer home that needs to be winterized—as well as all other appliances that are housed in unheated spaces. Doing this is not tough, particularly if you did the device’s initial installation yourself. Before turning the equipment off, it is crucial to remove any remaining water.

This is essential because leftover liquid can cause rust to appear over the winter if it is not disposed of. For this reason, it’s crucial to empty the washing chamber of any water before shutting it off and to take out any dishes that might be kept inside. This is particularly crucial when moving because the dishes can break and harm the dishwasher’s internal parts during transit. In addition, since the machine needs to be repaired or replaced, it should be turned off.

Dismantling the dishwasher

A total shutdown won’t be any different, no matter what. Get screwdrivers ready with keys, and make sure you have all the necessary tools by looking over the device’s fasteners. When everything is prepared, you can start taking things apart.

  • Disconnect the machine from the network.
  • Close the shut-off valve of the device.
  • Carefully remove the bolts securing the bottom panel of the dishwasher.
  • Remove the inlet hose, not forgetting to first unscrew the retaining nut.
  • Prepare a basin or other convenient container so that you have somewhere to drain the remaining water.
  • Remove the fasteners from the distribution box – this will give you free access to the cover.

In order to have a visual representation of the correctly connected wiring when reassembly is underway, it is preferable to take multiple pictures of the wiring connections.

  • Disconnect the wiring.
  • Remove the fasteners, as well as the bolt from the bracket, which will allow you to remove the cable.
  • Loosen the seal with a small screwdriver to remove the cable.
  • Find the drain location, which is usually under the sink.
  • Loosen the clamps on the drain hose, remove it and pull it out through the kitchen unit.
  • Open the door of the washing chamber to remove the fasteners of the "home assistant" to the kitchen cabinet.
  • Release the legs of the machine – they may have been fixed with screws for balance.
  • Carefully remove the dishwasher by pulling it towards you.

If your appliance is fully built-in and has a hinged front, you will also need to remove the door after removing the screws that were positioned on the bunker’s side around the door’s perimeter. It is not necessary to call a service center specialist because all of the described procedures are simple to complete by yourself as long as you follow our instructions.

To guarantee safety and avoid harming the appliance, there are a few easy steps you must take when turning off a dishwasher. Press the power button or choose the "off" option from the control panel to get started. Before turning the machine off, stop it if a cycle is in the middle. You can unplug the dishwasher or turn off the circuit breaker’s power supply to exercise additional caution. By following these procedures, you can make sure the dishwasher is safely turned off and prepared for maintenance or other duties.

Remember about safety

It’s important to keep safety in mind when doing any repairs. Although most people are familiar with the standard list of these measures, it won’t be unnecessary to reiterate it given how crucial these are.

  • Always disconnect the equipment from the power supply if the equipment needs to be repaired or completely dismantled.
  • Be sure to shut off the water supply before disconnecting the dishwasher hoses, so as not to flood the floors and neighbors below.
  • Do not turn off the dishwasher until you are sure that there is no waste water in it. To get rid of the liquid, turn on the drain and lower the hose into a small bucket or basin so that the water flows there.
  • In certain situations, to seal the hole, which is needed so that water enters the unit through it, you need to buy special steel elements to close the pipes.
  • The hole must be sealed even if the water supply is turned off.

To have a clear understanding of all the stages of dismantling, what needs to be done in what order, and what needs to be prepared for this, always plan out the scope of work in advance.

Step Description
1 Press the "Power" button to stop the cycle if the dishwasher is running.
2 Open the dishwasher door slightly to confirm that it’s off.
3 Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher.
4 Switch off the dishwasher at the wall socket or unplug it.
