Dismantling the Electrolux top-loading washing machine

Disassembling a top-loading washing machine, such as those made by Electrolux, can initially seem very difficult. But, you can manage it yourself without the help of a technician if you follow the right procedures and have a little patience.

It’s crucial to know how to safely disassemble your machine, whether you need to replace a broken part or just clean the internal parts. This tutorial will lead you through the procedure so that you can complete the work with assurance.

Prior to beginning, make sure the washing machine is unplugged and disconnected from any water sources, and have the required tools on hand. Prioritizing safety is paramount when handling electrical appliances.

Preparatory stage

It’s time to get ready for the work that lies ahead. The washing machine must first be turned off and disconnected from the water and sewage supplies. The "vertical" must then be moved away from the wall and any nearby furniture to allow free access.

To ensure that nothing gets in the way of the work, it is best to move the laundry to the garage or the empty room. If this isn’t feasible, a few square meters of unoccupied space in the kitchen, bathroom, or hallway will do.

The tools need to be ready for use. In order to disassemble, you will require:

  • slotted and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • open-end wrenches of different sizes;
  • a set of socket heads;
  • pliers.

Additionally, you’ll need to get ready a few dry rags and a large, low container for collecting water. Having a camera-equipped smartphone nearby wouldn’t be detrimental. To avoid mistakes during the reassembly process, it is advisable to take pictures of the wiring diagrams and contact locations while the machine is disassembled.

The type of breakdown will determine how much work needs to be done. It is easy to replace the drive belt by just removing the case’s side wall. In more severe situations, you will need to dismantle the entire machine. To determine which components are where, it is best to first read the instructions that come with the equipment.

Also, you’ll need patience and some free time to disassemble the vertical Electrolux. It is essential to proceed cautiously and follow the directions exactly. In addition, if the machine is still covered by warranty, call the service center right away for a free diagnostic rather than attempting to fix it yourself.

It’s crucial to follow a step-by-step procedure when disassembling an Electrolux top-loading washing machine in order to remove components like the motor, drum, and control panel safely. This will assist in locating and fixing any problems, guaranteeing that the machine functions properly once more. To prevent errors, make sure the machine is unplugged before turning it on and refer to the handbook.

Dismantle the unit

While frontal and vertical machines share many of the same components, they are disassembled in different ways. Read the user manual thoroughly before tampering with the washing machine. A diagram showing the locations of the machine units is included in the instructions; this will help you understand where the washing machine’s major components are located.

Make sure the washing machine is de-energized before disassembling.

To prevent electric shock, remove the vertical machine’s power cord from the socket before beginning any work. The washing machine should then be disconnected from the water supply and sewage by closing the shut-off valve in front of the machine’s inlet hose. Additional action algorithm:

  • move the machine to free space to have an approach to all sides of its body;
  • prepare the necessary tools;
  • remove the dashboard. On some Electrolux models, you will first need to unscrew the bolts around the perimeter, on others it is enough to simply pry the "dashboard" and bend the latches. The disconnected part can either be removed completely, disconnecting the wiring, or hung on the side wall of the washing machine;
  • find the fasteners holding the housing cover, unscrew them and remove the panel;
  • loosen the clamps on the inlet valve pipe, disconnect the hoses, unhook the wires connected to it and squeeze out the electromagnetic valve;
  • dismantle the side walls of the housing, having dealt with their fasteners;
  • remove the front wall clamps, opening access to the main internal elements of the vertical;
  • disconnect the wiring from the tank (for Electrolux verticals, you do not need to pull the tank out of the housing even when replacing bearings – the rings can be installed right in place);
  • remove the drive belt from the pulley;
  • Disconnect the contacts from the heater, twist the central nut, press the bolt inward, and pull the heater from the planting nest;
  • drop the contacts from the motor, remove the bolts that secure it and pull the motor out of the housing;
  • loosen the clamps on the pipes connected to the pump, then remove the drain pump by turning it counterclockwise.

In addition, the vertical machine’s cover is disassembled. The panel must be laid out on a level surface. Pull the tray towards you until it comes away from the seat in order to disassemble the powder receptacle.

Subsequently, you must release the button, unscrew the two screws concealed behind it, and press the upper latch. Next, flip the door over, locate the handle, and loosen the latches to "cut" the element in half.

Disassembling a vertical washing machine is less complicated than a frontal one. This is where removing the tank from the shock absorbers is not necessary. You can now begin troubleshooting and fixing the machine. Remember to remove any dirt or limescale from the washing machine’s components.

Step Instructions
1 Unplug the machine
2 Remove the top cover by unscrewing the screws
3 Disconnect the control panel carefully
4 Detach the hoses from the drum
5 Unscrew and remove the drum assembly
6 Inspect or replace any faulty parts
7 Reassemble the machine in reverse order

Although disassembling an Electrolux top-loading washing machine calls for meticulous attention to detail, most do-it-yourselfers can handle it with the correct tools and instructions. You can safely access the internal components for maintenance or repairs by following the instructions.

To facilitate reassembly, remember to disconnect the machine from the water and power lines before operating it. You should also keep track of all the screws and parts. Being patient is essential, particularly when handling delicate connections and parts.

After finishing the procedure, you’ll have a deeper comprehension of your washing machine’s functioning, which will be useful for any upcoming maintenance or troubleshooting. By taking the time to do it yourself, you can prolong the life of your appliance and reduce repair costs.
