How to change the cuff on an LG washing machine

Your LG washing machine’s rubber door seal, sometimes referred to as the cuff, may deteriorate or break over time. This may result in unpleasant smells and water leaks, which could impair the functionality of your appliance.

Although replacing the cuff might seem difficult, you can do it yourself if you have the necessary patience and know how to proceed. We’ll lead you through the procedure in this guide, making it easy and stress-free.

Knowing how to change the cuff will help you avoid spending time and money on repairs, whether you’re dealing with a tear, mold buildup, or just want to keep your machine in good working order.

Step Description
1 Unplug the washing machine and remove the top panel.
2 Open the door and remove the metal clamp holding the old cuff in place.
3 Gently peel off the old cuff from the door opening.
4 Fit the new cuff into the door groove, ensuring it sits evenly.
5 Reattach the metal clamp securely to hold the new cuff.
6 Replace the top panel and test the machine for leaks.

Preparing for repair

You must get ready in order to quickly replace the hatch cuff on an LG front-loading washing machine. Naturally, we will start by reviewing the guidelines for performing tasks and the safety precautions for fixing electrical appliances.

  1. We need to turn off the machine and drag it to where it will be convenient to work with it.
  2. We also need to purchase a new hatch cuff that is guaranteed to fit your LG washing machine.
  3. After this, we need to collect simple tools, prepare mentally and start working.

So, use the on/off button to turn the machine off. Take out the power cord’s plug from the socket to fully de-energize it. After that, disconnect the machine’s water supply and take out the fill and drain hoses. After twisting the hoses and power cord, drag the machine to the location of the repair.

Slide the washing machine’s door open. A silver plate with your LG washing machine’s complete model name, such as LG F1056MD, is located directly above the hatch. Go to the store to get washing machine replacement parts and rewrite the name. The seller will provide you with the necessary cuff if they know the name of your machine model.

A few remarks now regarding the tools. For this task, a flat and Phillips screwdriver, along with a flashlight, should be sufficient. Use a screwdriver if you are too lazy to twist the screws. That’s it, let’s get the fixing done.

Disassembling the machine

We will begin by disassembling the washing machine because it is difficult to replace the cuff without doing so. We remove the screws holding the top cover in place by going around the back of the machine. Lift the cover up and pull it towards us.

We now circle around the machine’s front. In order to prevent it from getting in the way when we remove the front wall and control panel, we must get the powder tray. Press the plastic tab in the middle, pull the powder tray towards ourselves until it stops, and then fully remove the powder receptacle.

You will notice that there are two screws to the right and left of its niche after removing the powder receptacle. Using a Phillips screwdriver, carefully unscrew these screws.

The LG washing machine’s control panel needs to be removed at this point. There are unique latches on the rear of the control panel, behind the end portion of the case. You can use the same Phillips screwdriver to press them down. Alternatively, gently remove the control panel by pressing on the latches.

Carefully move forward; behind the control panel, an impressive bundle of wires will extend. Simply place the removed panel and wires on top of the machine body’s corner; there’s no need to disconnect them.

Step down and pick up a flat screwdriver. Remove the hatch cover covering the waste filter. This cover is situated on a slender ornamental panel at the bottom.

Once the cover is open, remove the emergency drain hose as it may obstruct your ability to reach the fastener. To remove the decorative panel’s screw, use a Phillips screwdriver. Depending on the LG CM model, the screw is either to the right or left of the filter. Gently remove the ornamental panel from the latches by first grabbing it on the right side and then the left.

With the hatch door wide open, attempt to remove the hatch cuff’s front clamp using a flat screwdriver. Since this clamp will obstruct the removal of the CM body’s front wall, it must be done now. Locate the clamp’s spring. Either the top or the bottom can contain the spring. Using a flat screwdriver to pry the spring, we carefully remove the clamp by pulling it towards ourselves.

You can perform this operation even more effectively by using a blunt table knife in place of the flat screwdriver.

We are unable to remove the door sealing rubber at this point in the disassembly process. However, we can tuck it inside the drum to prevent it from catching on the case’s front wall edges when we disassemble it further. The cuff is tucked into the drum. Next, we remove the two screws holding the LG washing machine’s UBL in place. To remove the screws, which are to the right of the hatch, you’ll need a Phillips screwdriver.

In order to free the front wall of the LG washing machine casing, five additional screws must be removed. The two screws on top should be undone first, followed by the two screws on the bottom.

Using a screwdriver, carefully pry the UBL from the front wall until it falls inside. The front wall can now be taken down and set aside. It is not necessary to remove the hatch cover specifically; leave it attached to the machine body’s front wall. The hose that is attached to the cuff fitting must then be taken off.

With the right tools, replacing the door gasket, also known as the cuff, on an LG washing machine is an easy task that most people can complete. You can make sure your washing machine keeps functioning properly and prevent common problems like water leaks by closely following the instructions.

For safety’s sake, unplug the device first, and then take the old cuff out by carefully removing its inner and outer clamps. It takes time to fit the new gasket; make sure it is correctly aligned before tightening the clamps once more. To ensure a tight fit that stops leaks, take your time doing this section.

Run a test cycle once everything has been put back together to look for leaks. In the event that no water escapes, your work is correct. This kind of routine maintenance can help your washing machine last longer and save you money on future, more costly repairs.

An LG washing machine’s door gasket, also known as the cuff, can be easily replaced at home using simple tools. The replacement gasket must be carefully fitted in place after the old one is removed, and it must be tightly fastened to avoid leaks. With the help of this step-by-step guide, you will be able to restore the efficiency of your washing machine and prevent expensive repairs.
